Biography
Kathy was born and raised in Athens, Georgia, a University town full of Antebellum architecture, contemporary art, and an eclectic music scene. She grew up in an artistic and creative household where her artist dad owned his own screen printing company, and her grandmother was a painter. Kathy credits her sense of humor, confidence, and artistic freedom to having been dropped off at school every morning in a VW bus that had her Dad's aerial view of Athens airbrushed on the sides.
Genetically influenced by her artist dad and grandmother, her talent and love of art came naturally, and her passion to create, self motivated. Kathy's talent was noticed early, with her works used for school flyers as early as second grade and showing her work in high school art shows at the University of Georgia.
Currently living in Atlanta, Georgia, Kathy mainly paints in oil and acrylic. She describes her style as abstract and impressionistic.
Artist Statement
I paint with raw emotion; without fear. It is very meditative, an out of body dance. I paint very much in the moment, almost without forethought. An artist's drawing or painting is part of their soul. My paintings are done in a very loose and impressionistic style, not giving every detail. When you look at my artwork, your eyes will automatically fill in the details, bringing you back to a place or feeling that you've had before. That is, after all how we really see, not of what the eye sees, but what the soul feels. I have always loved loose, abstract, or impressionistic artwork for the romantic feel of it. I want to keep looking as I receive flashes of nostalgia, and that's what I hope you feel when you look at my work.
